External Advisors
VSSL benefits greatly from the knowledge, expertise, and experience of external advisors. Advisors provide a combination of deep experience, "fresh eyes", and scholarly expertise in the areas of VSSL's work. Current external advisors include the following individuals (listed alphabetically by last name):
David H. Au, MD, MS
Dr. Au is a pulmonologist, professor, and an accomplished scientist with expertise in health services and outcomes research. His expertise includes analyzing large datasets and testing interventions to inform policy and improve patient outcomes, . Dr. Au is currently the Acting Executive Director of the Center for Care and Payment Innovation in the US Department of Veteran Affairs. Learn more about his work.

Anirban Basu, PhD, MS
Dr. Basu is a health economist and statistician specializing in research on comparative and cost effectiveness analyses, causal inference methods, program evaluation, and outcomes research. At UW, he directs The CHOICE (Comparative Health Outcomes, Policy, and Economics) Institute. Learn more about his work.

Frederick M. Chen, MD, MPH
Dr. Chen is family physician and highly regarded expert in public health, health care delivery, and medical education. After serving in multiple roles in the Department of Family Medicine over more than two decades, Freddy recently assumed a national role with the American Medical Association, where he is the Chief Health and Science Officer. He also retains a faculty appointment at UW.

Christoph I. Lee, MD, MS, MBA
Dr. Lee is a radiologist and professor at UW, where he directs NW-SCORE (Northwest Screening and Cancer Outcomes Research Enterprise). This role is a result of his health services research expertise, track record as a physician scientists, and wealth of experience leading and executing large grant-funded research projects.
