We are excited to share that Dr. Joshua Liao, Associate Professor and VSSL Director, has been named Associate Chair for Health Systems in the UW Department of Medicine.
In this new role, he will lead the development of a departmental health systems program with emphases on the design, evaluation and dissemination of health systems innovations and collaborations within and beyond the Department. He will also play an important role in the implementation of new programs and initiatives as part of the Department of Medicine's strategic plan.
This appointment builds on Dr. Liao's experience and work addressing how systems of financing and delivering care work together with human behavior to affect health outcomes.
Since founding VSSL, he has led a portfolio of work in two related areas: policy initiatives that reform health care payment and delivery, and provider initiatives that use principles from behavioral science to drive performance in those reforms.
Dr. Liao's work as Associate Chair will also be informed by his roles advising and working with health systems as well as state and national policymakers on a range of health systems policy and practice issues.
He completed medical school at Baylor College of medicine and trained in internal medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital where he was also a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.
